Cube of Wonder

Cube of Wonder volumetric light concept
Proposal visualisationChris Love / Emanation
Idea

Making the invisible visible.

A finite structure attempting to describe something infinite.

The proposal translates Emanation from a browser-based audiovisual system into a physical field of individually controlled light. Sacred geometries and Platonic forms can appear, dissolve and reform within true XYZ space.

Experience

Between the cosmic and the human.

In the proposed installation, cosmic conditions become an invisible force within the artwork. Changes in solar wind, magnetic fields, X-ray activity and geomagnetic conditions subtly alter the behaviour of the system, conceptually propagating outward from a central Source.

The audience introduces another scale of influence. Touch or proximity at the accessible sides would create disturbances travelling inward towards the Source, while local sound provides another immediate influence.

Development

From digital artwork to physical instrument.

The current concept is approximately 3 × 3 × 3 metres and viewed externally from all sides. Structure, LED density, sensing, generative sound, touring, weather protection and repairability become part of the artistic system rather than secondary engineering details.
